Molochite White and buff stoneware blended body with manganese rich slip blended in. Hand pinched to within three mill. Burnished on the top. Glazed inside with tin and rutile.

A gift for a former student who has many layers.

This reminds me of a sager firing technique we're learning in my class. It's amazing what burnishing a piece can do, it looks like it was plucked from the earth.

Would love to use saggers but my classroom sticks at the best of times. Setting off the fire alarms because the tiny fan vent above the kiln might not take the strain of any smoke will only land me in hot water. Perhaps I'm just making excuses thou and not bothering to make the sagger in the first place ;p

Lol, well its part of my Raku class so the kiln is outside away from any alarms. My instructor, a very talented and knowledgable guy, confuses me how he wants us to do it. There are apparently different way to prepare the piece for the firing but he needs to make up his mind how he wants his student to do it.

I am unsure lol, he can be a little scattered so sometimes you have to poke him to get some answers. He's good though, very talented and supportive. I haven't had a ceramic instructor yet that wasn't. I'm interested in the saggar firing, but I really enjoy raku so if I'm able to keep doing that I will be happy.

I think I managed to stop short of overloading the seams. There is a definite micro canyon where the manganese has liquefied. More an aesthetic happy accident ... XD
Thanklez

Your pencil work come to life (well, as lively as a beautiful lump of exquisitely sculted clay can look) in 3D!

Really super work!
